  • Description
For many people, re-entering life in the home culture proves to be more difficult than they expect. When people return “home,??? they realize that life has gone on without them and that can be painful. They also realize they are not the same person they were before they left. It can be a very distressing time of transition for many people. Reentry for the cross-cultural worker need not be just a time of grief and confusion; it can also be a valuable time of growth. During the five days of Abide, participants process their experiences, grieve their losses, celebrate their gains, and learn to tell their story well so they can move into their next season of life at home or abroad with joy. We incorporate a variety of experiential activities and different forms of media to aid their process. Abide will help them navigate this period of readjustment without fading or being lost.

Participants in the ABIDE re-entry retreat will be guided through a week of unpacking and processing the preceding years of cross-cultural experience. We incorporate a daily time of worship, times of prayer and meals together with small group and individualized counseling conversations. This debriefing experience aims to assist and enable participants to reflect, process and gain insight into the gains and losses that take place in times of transition, particularly for those coming off the field permanently or long-term.
